THE HISTORY OF L.A. DANCE CONNECTION
In April of 1986, sisters Sheryl Sims and Lisa Sims-Grosso with partner Joan Golden reopened the Joan Golden Dance Center in Whittier Ca. In 1987 Joan Golden retired to the high desert to continue teaching dance, and the Sims sisters proudly renamed the school L.A. Dance Connection. Their vision was to open a dance school, unique to the area, which would focus on providing a quality dance education. They would expose and educate their students with all styles and genres of dance as well as teach dance history and an appreciation for the arts. They are committed to providing a warm, fair, and nurturing environment, which would assist in the development of the young dancer’s spirit, passion, and self-esteem. L.A. Dance Connection started with a small company and quickly grew into a nationally recognized establishment with an outstanding reputation! Shortly after the re-grand opening, L.A. Dance Connection began attracting dancers from all over the L.A. area. Dancers started commuting from La Habra, La Mirada, Hacienda Heights, Rowland Heights, Montebello, Norwalk, Santa Fe Springs, Pico Rivera to train at LADC.
Today we are honored to still be the leaders in dance education and are proud of the reputation for nurturing technically trained dancers. Our dancers possess a genuine and unique quality in their abilities, and they are renowned for their knowledge in all dance forms. They are known nationally for their creative and diverse company pieces, their passion, and their professionalism. Our students have attained national championship titles and recognition, which lead them to be featured in dance magazines, television, and national tours. However, most of our students have moved on to college and chose other paths of life. A large number of L.A. Dance Connection alumni have used dance to aid in admittance to the college of their choice and have been members of the national dance team not only as dancers but choreographers as well. Regardless of which path was taken, they will all tell you that dancing at L.A. Dance Connection and being part of the family here was an enjoyable experience. We are very proud of all of our students here at L.A. Dance Connection and are very grateful for the growth and success of the students and the studio. We will always be committed to providing an environment in which the dancers, through the discipline of dance, will gain self- respect, self-appreciation, artistic freedom, and the confidence to always DANCE to the beat of their own drum.
