FAQ For Parents

How do you differ from other dance schools?

As for other dance schools, we can’t comment on the teachers or procedures, but we have several distinct differences from most other dance schools.  Our floor is one of our major differences – our professional floating wood dance floor offers additional cushioning and support to help prevent injuries and fatigue.  We also have a full time office staff, which means the person teaching the class is not distracted with administrative details, and there is always someone available to assist you with your customer service needs. We also keep our class sizes appropriate to the age and style of dance taken along with a teachers assistant in almost every class.

Can I sit and observe my child’s dance class?

We find it to be disruptive to the teaching and learning environment when parents observe class from inside the classroom.  Studio A provides a 1-way viewing window so the parent may observe their child from the waiting room without interrupting the class.  In Studio B there is no observation window, so we provide the parents a observation week to watch their child in the classroom. Parent observation week for Studio B is always the last week of the month unless notified of a change.  If the parents sit in it can become to distracting for the students.  There are too many authority figures and the children either lose class time looking for Mom and Dad’s approval, or they act out to see what reaction they will get.  We encourage parents of young children to wait in the waiting room or in the courtyard so if they are needed they are close by.

At what age can my children start dancing at the school?

We recommend students starting at 3 years old or when they are potty-trained.

What if I have questions or concerns?

Please keep in mind that the faculty/instructors always have the best interest of the students in mind.  Our main goal is to see our students learn and progress.  If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress or class schedule, please make an appointment with your child’s teacher or the school director at any time.

Do you offer discounts for families with more than one child wanting to dance?

Yes,  all of our families that take are charged by how many hours of dance taken at the school which has  been prorated per class taken.  Please refer to the pricing section to answer any further questions.

What type of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, check, Visa and MasterCard.

Do you offer makeup classes?

Yes, we do offer make up classes.  Students have 30 days to make up any missed classes or the class is forfeited.

Why do you charge a registration fee?

The registration fee allows us to provide you with information throughout the year regarding the annual show and all of the events surrounding the show such as costume fittings, picture day, dress rehearsal, etc.  We also have front desk staff during all business hours to assist you in any way and this fee helps pay for that staff.

How long is the dance season?

If your student is registered for monthly dance classes, the Fall Season runs form September Thur the first weekend in August.  After the Annual Show the studio is closed in August in preparation for the next fall season.  No dance classes are available but the studio office is open to assist you with your needs.

What do students learn in dance class?

In our classes, we try to incorporate many things in the learning environment in addition to dance steps.  Students build confidence, grace, poise, musicality and increase friendship-building skills.  Please refer to our class description page for details about technical elements.

Do we have to sign up for monthly classes or can we just drop-in here and there?

We at LADC feel that instruction needs to be on a consistent basis in order for a dancer to learn at those levels. New students to L.A. Dance Connection can take single classes to try something out before registering for monthly classes.

How do I register?

We hold our annual registration in June for fall placement in classes.  Our existing customers have priority registration along with new students on a waiting list, we then open up our registration to the general public.  Please contact us at the school or on our web site to complete registration paperwork to guarantee that you get the class day and time that works best for the family.

How do I know which level of class to take?

Even if you have previous dance experience, each dance studio has different measures for abilities of dancers.  It makes sense to call our knowledgeable front desk staff to discuss placement for a trial class.  Once your child has taken a trial class, our teaching staff will be able to assist you in making a decision regarding which class would be suitable and benefiting to your child.

Do you have a dress code?
